Ilkley Grammar School has been offered funding to develop a mobile cycle repair capability as part of its development and its new Achievement Centre, to start later next term and to help many students develop new skills.
The Centre and cycle repair training will probably commence after the October Half Term 2019, however, on behalf of the school we wanted to ask Ilkley Cycle Club members whether they may wish to put their names forward for the scheme at this early stage so that we can get an idea of take-up. Wheelbase Ilkley have already helped with the design of the bid for funding and are ready to help support the scheme once the funding is released.
What we want to do now is start to build up interest in ICC members, and others, who may feel they can offer some time much later in the year to help the Achievement Centre train students in cycle repair work. At this stage we do not have a set plan for timing commitments until the newly appointed Achievement Centre Manager starts his job in September.
So what I am seeking is for ICC members who have the necessary practical skills and perhaps able to offer a few hours a week, to step forward so that by the time the school resumes in September we can gather volunteers together and start organising how it will work. This is a new and unique venture so will take some planning before it kicks off, hence the advanced notice.
Owing to the nature of the contact volunteers will probably need DBS checks but we can sort that nearer the time, but volunteers must be prepared to be asked
All we require at this stage is the following:
- Phone number
- Details of and general cycle repair skills and any training
- Details of any experience as a teacher or trainer you have
Email me. I am happy to answer any questions.

Voluntary Enterprise Adviser, Ilkley Grammar School
We will send out further information at the end of September.
